History of ACHF
Alberta Health and Wellness (AHW)
Starting in 1987, HIV Community Care and Support for the Prevention & Control of HIV provided community grants to support:
- HIV prevention programming
- Provincial HIV Clinics
- Surveillance and research
- HIV/AIDS related treatment, care & prevention in Alberta
Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) (formerly Health Canada)
Starting in 1989, AIDS Community Action Program (ACAP)
- Funding available to all regions across Canada
- Support to the local, provincial and territorial community-based response to the existing and emerging issues associated with HIV/AIDS
In 2001, AHW and PHAC pooled funds to create the Alberta Community HIV Fund (ACHF) under the stewardship of the Alberta Community Council on HIV.
