Member Requirements

Groups or organizations (hereinafter referred to as groups) may be eligible for membership in the Alberta Community Council on HIV (ACCH), if they meet all of the following criteria.[1]

I.      Its missions, goals, and philosophy are compatible with those of the ACCH.

II.      It receives operational funding from the Alberta Community HIV Fund, and that the funded program=s main objective or objectives is the prevention of the spread of HIV infection and/or the provision of assistance and support to people affected by HIV/AIDS and related conditions, and/or the promotion of health for people affected by HIV/AIDS.

III.      It is a not-for-profit organization

IV.      It is community-based.  Specifically:

a.       It must have a volunteer Board of Directors or an equivalent voluntary body responsible for its government, including financial matters, policy, program development and delivery.

b.      The majority of its Board of Directors or equivalent voluntary body must be elected by the membership of the organization at a public meeting.

c.       It is committed to ensuring the significant and appropriate representation of persons living with HIV / AIDS within its decision-making process - including on its Board of Directors or equivalent voluntary body.

d.      Membership in the group is open to any person who agrees with the mission and philosophy of that group.

e.      It has a significant volunteer component.

V.      It is autonomous.  The Board of Directors or equivalent voluntary body must finally be accountable to the general membership of the group

VI.     It demonstrates the need for its services and its ability to deliver these services in its identified community of service.

VII.    The primary geographic area of service is within the Province of Alberta.
