External Job Posting - Executive Director of Turning Point

Turning Point is the local not for profit organization that offers support to individuals who are infected or affected by sexually transmitted and blood borne infections, and provides prevention and education throughout Central Alberta.

Scope of Work & Responsibilities

The successful applicant will represent the Turning Point Society within the community and identify, engage and sustain collaborative partnerships and relationships with professionals and stakeholders on behalf of the Society.


      Program Development, Evaluation and Reporting: 

  •   Maintain program delivery records

  •   Motivate programming and policy change to be inclusive of target populations

  •   Participate in evaluation and reporting activities including program planning that is evidence-based and locally relevant

  •   Meet regularly with Board of Directors for consultation and direction


    Organizational Management of:

  •   Media relations

  •   Promotion of the Society

  •   Funding and finances

  •   Policy development

  •   Planning, implementation and evaluation of all programming including data collection and reporting

  •   Research


    Community Involvement & Communication:

  •   Promote and facilitate the participation of target populations in regional and provincial activities

  •   Create awareness and education about STBBIs, harm reduction and related issues in the community

  •   Participate in regional, provincial and national meetings and consultations. Share expertise and information about

    agency programming and objectives

  •   Collaborate on common activities with other agencies and committees


    Human Resources & Management:

  •   Recruit, supervise and mentor direct reports

  •   Determines staffing requirements for program delivery

  •   Establishes a positive, healthy and safe work environment


    General Duties:

  •   Contribute to the work of the multi-disciplinary team

  •   Participate in staff meeting

  •   Adhere to the established goals and objectives

  •   Maintain and grow knowledge base and skills relevant to agency programming

  •   Attend agency functions as required

  •   Adhere to the Executive guidelines and limitations

  •   Other duties as identified



The successful candidate must have strong strategic planning expertise to guide the future of the society through fast paced and rapidly progressive programming developments. The ideal candidate has demonstrated exceptional skills in external relations, building and sustaining collaborative relationships with employees, clients, other agencies, governments, donors and the media. Directing a strong team, the Executive Director leads through influencing and mentoring.


A degree in Social Services is preferred, but any education in social work, human services, non-profit management or a related discipline, will be considered. Minimum five year’s progressive senior management experience within the non- profit sector and experience supervising staff and managing programs is required.
